About this blog
My funny bone has received a lot of greasing over the years – kept limber by a family that has found many reasons to laugh with each other – and sometimes at each other, but never to cause personal pain or humiliation.
I can trace all the silliness back to my mother’s mother, who left a hope chest of giggles to her three daughters. According to mom, her family often succumbed to giggle-fests as long as they didn’t erupt at the dinner table when my Scottish grandfather was home. Grandpa thought proper dinner decorum did not allow for a case of the sillies. But you can suppress a good belly laugh for only so long before it sneaks up on you.
Through the years, I’ve come to appreciate how important it is to see the humor (and wonder) in the smallest details of life. I'm occasionally shocked to meet people who can’t laugh. I recently heard that children laugh 300 or more times a day on average but adults enjoy a good laugh only 15 times daily.
Life is hard. Sometimes, beyond hard. But I don't believe God leaves us empty-handed; he gives us each other. And he makes some of us goofballs to help others (who aren't) look on the bright side -- to be encouraged and even inspired.
I hope this blog results in more smiles and raises the daily average of laughs per adult, but most important, that it provides a lift when you need it most.
